Claire, a small town girl from Nebraska, finds herself living the dream in California. The only problem - she hates it! When she runs into Dylan, her life changes and he shows her California in a whole new light. Quickly becoming best friends, Dylan and Claire fall in love, but neither will admit it. After all, Claire has a fiancé back home in Nebraska.
Alex, Dylan's childhood friend, finds himself in a similar situation. He meets Jenna, a beautiful ballroom dancer who dreams of meeting her prince. Alex scared of commitment and is only interested in women for sex. But, he is immediately enamored by Jenna. The two quickly become best friends, never giving in to the deeper feelings they have for each other.
Everything changes when Dylan meets Jenna. Their instant attraction is hot and both quickly grow serious about committing to each other. Clair and Alex are left wondering if they made the biggest mistakes of their lives by not claiming the ones they love.
I stayed up late finishing this book. I kept thinking I could put it down and pick it back up in the morning, but I wasn't able to.
I connected with the characters on a level that had me yelling (almost out loud) at some of their decisions. For me, this is the mark of a good book. If I get upset with the characters, it means I really care about them. I want to shake them and say "Just tell him how you feel!" But, if the characters had listened to me, the story wouldn't have been as compelling. It would have been a short little love story with no conflict. Instead, they fell into a love triangle square that left me happy for them all.
Jessica Calla's writing was wonderful. I envied her seemingly easy ability to display character emotions instead of just telling the reader how they felt. I loved how she made me connect with the characters on an emotional level.
I really enjoyed this book and will be reading more from this author in the future.
